Stemona curtisii Hook. F. is very popular insecticidal herb used in the southern part of Thailand. Its root contains a specific group of Stemona alkaloids. This study is aimed to evaluate the effect of auxins on root production and stemona alkaloids accumulation in roots of S. curtisii Hook. f. in vitro . In vitro shoots were cultured on MS medium (Murashige and Skoog,1962) supplemented with various types of auxins (indole-3-acetic acid ;IAA , indole-3-butyric acid ; IBA and α-naphthalene acetic acid ; NAA) at the concentrations of 0 0.2 0.4 0.6 0.8 and 1.0 mg/L for 2 months. The results found by adding with auxins could enhance the quality of root with higher in fresh yiled and alkaloids contents when compare to non-treated. The 1.0 mg/L NAA treatment was achieved for root yield production while the highest total alkaloid and stemocurtisine contents were found in 0.8 g/l IBA treatment at 186.9760 10 -3 mg/gDW and 340.1420 x 10 -6 mg /gDW, respectively.
