Information

Authors: Bruno Cheviron * F*) from the interplay between fixed costs, variable costs attached to water and energy consumption, and incomes drawn from the selling price of the crop. In other words, solutions are sought along the Y(I) production curve and I, Y and F altogether depend on the selected (SI) irrigation strategy. A recent trend is the inclusion of environment-related targets (e.g. nitrogen lixiviation, carbon storage, water, nitrogen and energetic productivities) and possible associated retributions (e.g. PES n Payment for Environmental Services) which changes the nature and solutions of the optimization issue. This aims to promote sustainable good practices in water management and de facto connects several disciplinary fields (which are present in the G-EAU JRU at Montpellier where Optirrig is developed) pleading for systemic, integrated modelling, and all the more when upscaling from the plot scale to the scale of water basin agencies. In summary, Optirrig offers (i) a parsimonious-as-possible description of plant properties, for multiple species, (ii) several formulations of the hydrological, agronomic and economic variables of interest, (iii) multiple actions from model handling and fitting, to the formulation and analysis of irrigation scenarios, either in real-time or ex post modes, and (iv) openings to new research leads and applications through its collaborative development and rapid growth.
