S22 - Session O3 - Keynote: Large scale production of dye-plants and plant extracts for industrial applications of natural dyes

Driven by the cosmetic industry demand for natural colors, 25 years ago, the CRITT Horticole decided to carry out a unique and multidisciplinary research and development program on natural dyes for industrial applications (textile, cosmetic, painting…). The private company Couleurs de Plantes was then created in 2005, using the know-how and results of this R&D project, in order to produce natural dyes and pigments at a large scale for industrial customers and craftsmen. Based on this experience and requirements to develop the use of natural dyes, we will focus on related topics including sourcing and plant production, extraction, production of dyes and pigments, quality & color control, standardization, international regulation. We will then present the dyes industry's challenges, barriers and tools for development.
