The family of Rosaceae consists of a wide diversity of species, most of which are of economic importance. The French Group for the study and evaluation of Varieties and Seeds (GEVES) is responsible for the DUS testing of several species of Rosaceae for variety registration and Plant Breeder's Rights. Molecular markers such as SSR are valuable and powerful tools for identifying individuals, establishing phylogenetic relationships, managing reference collections. GEVES routinely use molecular tools on peach, apricot, pear, apple, plum and cherry trees to characterize genetic diversity, to help to structure reference collections, detect misnamed accessions and support the sector.
